BUCKWILD
Buckwild (Solo) is a contemporary piece that came out of a breakup and the process of moving through everything that comes with that. It blends pedestrian jazz with contemporary movement, mixing everyday, almost casual motion with more intentional and expressive moments. The movement feels grounded and familiar at times, then shifts into something more stylized, creating a constant back and forth.
There is a contradiction at the core of the piece. The relaxed costuming and laid-back energy can come across as confident and unbothered, but underneath there is something more intense. There are moments that feel a little unhinged, a little sad, or slightly off, even when everything on the surface looks put together. It reflects that feeling of trying to move on and be okay while still carrying something unresolved.
The piece plays with jazz rhythm and musicality while staying rooted in contemporary flow. It shifts between loose, almost effortless movement and more charged, emotional moments. Buckwild is less about telling a clear story and more about sitting in that mix of emotions, where confidence, humor, sadness, and chaos can all exist at the same time.
